Balmoral Fitness Group was founded by musculoskeletal therapist, strength & conditioning coach and martial arts enthusiast Sebastian Michalandos and based on one key insight:

Strength is central to how you look, feel, recover, perform and age.

The Space

Sebastian Michalandos

Perhaps one of Sebastian’s biggest achievements are how long-standing his clients are, and how frequently they recommend him to friends.

Sebastian will know you, push you, support you and help you get it done. He will level-up your workouts and remove any shred of monotony. You will sweat, push, box, reach and then want to do it over again.

When initially training in musculoskeletal therapy and considering becoming a physiotherapist, Sebastian saw first hand the role of strength training in rehabilitation and injury prevention. It was this that encouraged him to deviate back to his roots in PT, and fully integrate both offerings for his clients.

He’s a firm believer that adults need to feel strong, and that this is central to our shape, mood, to injury prevention and as an anti ageing tool.

As a degree qualified myotherapist, Seb understands human anatomy. If you have a shoulder injury, a back problem or a joint issue – he knows what to do, and what not to do. You’ll reach your goals in a considered manner with Seb.

An avid kickboxing enthusiast, he will often integrate martial arts as well as natural hurdles like slopes and sand to keep things interesting and keep you engaged.

Very early in life, Moni had passion for the world of nutrition and fitness, and voluntarily attended any conference she could gain access to expand her knowledge. For years she saw herself try in vain to reach goals she couldn’t meet on fitness training alone. It wasn’t until she partnered her training with the nutrition intake she needed that she saw great physical outcomes. This is what inspired her to learn more, and help others do the same.

Moni completed a Diploma of Health Science (Nutritional Medicine) and is a qualified Personal Trainer, and her greatest strength is integrating both offering for her clients. There’s a great saying that abs are made in the kitchen, and for someone who’s educated in nutrition extensively she knows this to be true.

Moni will take the time to understand your lifestyle, challenges and goals, and will build a complete plan to deliver on those outcomes.

Moni is all about balance and simplicity and will never ask too much of you. She recognises that small wins every week are what add up to big results long term. She wants you to enjoy your life and love your body. She would say most people need small adjustments vs big changes in order to be their best selves. Leanne Myliotis,

Leanne graduated with distinction from the Endeavour College of Natural Health with a degree in Health Science (Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine).  As a clinical nutritionist her passion is supporting her clients from a holistic perspective. At its best – food is comforting, uniting, and therapeutic. At its worst – it can be harmful. Its impacts are so individual that there is no one-sized fits all approach, and fads are usually fads for a reason. Listening to needs and finding solutions that realistically fit within your lifestyle is the only way forward. Leanne can help you with that.

Byron Michalandos

Having had plenty of sporting injuries over the years, Byron understands how pain can impact your function and quality of life and is passionate about helping people overcome injuries to get them back participating in the activities they enjoy.

Byron completed a Doctor of Physiotherapy at Macquarie University and comes from an exercise science background, having previously studied Exercise Physiology at the University of Sydney.

Byron has extensive experience treating a variety of injuries, and specialises in treating spinal pain, as well as muscle, tendon, ligament and joint injuries of the lower limb and shoulder for patients of all ages. He has developed expert knowledge and skills in the management of hip/knee osteoarthritis, having undertaken clinical research in non-operative treatment options for hip and knee osteoarthritis and delivers treatment programs reflecting the latest research in osteoarthritis management.

Byron also has a passion for treating sporting injuries and has worked in both recreational and elite sporting environments with the Canberra Raiders (NRL) and Fraser Park Football Club (NSW Premier League Soccer). Being a football (soccer) fanatic, Byron has a special interest in helping footballers return to play and conducts outdoor soccer-specific rehab sessions to help footballers return to their pre-injury levels.

Byron practices an active approach to treatment utilising gold standard evidence-based approaches for all conditions, combining hands on techniques with exercises tailored to your individual goals and regular activities. He is a strong believer in empowering his patients to self manage their condition, providing thorough patient education to help his clients understand their condition, their expectations for recovery, what they can do to manage their symptoms and prevent relapses in the long term.

Outside of work, Byron enjoys keeping active, whether it’s bushwalks or playing football, discovering new restaurants and live music.

Ambrose Adelaide

A professional fighter, ex Naval diver, degree qualified musculoskeletal therapist and a physiotherapy candidate – Ambrose Adelaide knows how to get the best from your body.

Originally from New Caledonia, Ambrose has been kickboxing for nearly two decades, and fighting professionally for the last 7 years. While he’s still an active fighter and regularly travels interstate for combat tournaments, he is also an avid kickboxing and Muay Thai trainer – and enjoys sharing this physical and mental workout with those who are keen to learn.

With the utmost respect for the body’s role in physical performance and quality of life, Ambrose undertook a degree in Myotherapy at Endeavour University, and practices as a fully qualified Musculoskeletal Therapist. This experience has been so impactful that Ambrose has decided to undertake the next level of his qualifications and is currently studying a Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) at Macquarie University.

Ambrose has honed his therapy skills in clinic and practice, and when he’s not teaching or fighting, you will find him on the ward a one of several Sydney hospitals supporting patient rehabilitation. During his placements at The Sutherland Hospital and The Uniting War Memorial Hospital, Ambrose has worked with degenerative conditions, traumatic brain injuries, complex musculoskeletal issues, and surgical recovery.

This combination of standout skills unites to give clients a highly engaging martial arts trainer, coach and rehabilitation specialist. Ambrose’s biggest priority is to keep you moving in a way that is both physically and mentally engaging, pain free and contributes immensely to your quality of life.

Matty, AKA Colonel Cullen, is our resident boot-camp drill master. 

Having competed at a state level in athletics and a representative level in rugby in previous years, he understands the importance of a tough and regimented training routine and perhaps this is why he is tailor-made for this role.

With over 15 years of experience as a personal trainer and group training instructor, he has earned his nickname through the gruelling yet incredibly satisfying and effective workout programmes he puts forward for his clients. Whether he has the full gym at his disposal or just the clients’ bodyweight, a mat and the great outdoors, Matty will ensure you push your limits and break thresholds. 

Much like the rest of our team, Mr Cullen’s skill set has layers. Aside from personal training, Matthew has also spent several years working in the rehab world as a Physio-aide and is currently a chiropractor candidate. Having completed an undergraduate degree, he is currently completing his Masters of Chiropractics at Macquarie University.
